about

Despite two years of forced solitary, Australian dance music found constant ways to evolve, to brew and to breed a new generation of ready to blossom, international bound talent. With the pause, came a flourish of music, artistry and an evolved dance music presentation. At the forefront of the ready to explode dance community is Naarm/Melbourne based Cassettes For Kids, who today releases single Tranquil via Gallery Recordings.

Tranquil follows a pair of years filled with careers for Cassettes For Kids. While many artists are provided the opportunity to perform on the big stage, rarely does one consistently steal the show alongside some of the biggest names in global dance music. His sold out Lost Sundays, Boiler Room appearance was named in the platforms Top Moments of 2021, he’s performed two stand-out sets at Pitch Music And Arts and sold out multiple headline nights in his hometown, most notably an open air foray at The Collingwood Childrens Farm.

The new single begins a new era for Cassettes For Kids as he shifts from ones-to-watch lists to one of the country’s most in demand. Tranquil was written as a calm before the storm moment in the globe, following his first appearance at the aforementioned Pitch Festival in 2020. It’s house music at its finest, driven by a late-swaying bass line, a pair of synth patterns and perfectly assorted percussion section.

Tranquil evokes the nostalgic elements we’ve all come to know and love from the power of a dance floor, with its late landing bounce providing a deeply human feel to a world of dance music that can feel homogenised and digitally engineered.

“This track came about after we had entered lockdown at home. This was a very brief moment of respite before life came to a crawl,” he stated.

“I had recently played Pitch Festival which would be my last gig for some time. I found myself actively trying to create a track that I felt had been missing from the set and after countless acid patterns being entered into my 303 clone, I created this very heavy, late swinging bass line.”

“After learning the woes of synchronisation errors, several elements were recorded out of sync. This led to a host of very awkward resampling, rerecording and warped audio that took weeks to correct but led to its slightly late landing bounce.”
